What is my philosophy of ADHD coaching?

Strengths-based coaching
Why is a strengths-based philosophy so important to ADHD clients?
Perhaps ADHDers are not used to noticing their strengths, and others are not used to noticing them. This can create a deficit mindset instead of a growth mindset. When we set goals, we have the capacity to reach them using our strengths. And our strengths will always be with us because they are innate.
Because ADHD brains are motivated by doing things that grab attention, a strengths focus can positively interact with interests, because the two may be related.
When we focus on past uses of our strengths, we can remember that we can use those strengths again to achieve our current and future goals. A catalog of strengths and achievements is an excellent idea.
Focusing on strengths builds confidence, and once we are confident, we can achieve anything!
My experience with ADHD coaching:
I have been an academic coach at a university for 20 years.
During that time I have assisted many adults with ADHD-related issues. I read books, attended conferences, gave presentations, and gave ongoing workshops- all about ADHD- and considered myself an expert. However, it was not until I began to pursue ADDCA (Attention Deficit Disorder Coach Academy) coaching certification that I began to reach my potential as an ADHD coach.
I learned about the importance of strengths.
I also learned that you are the expert in the coaching relationship, and not the coach. When you and the coach realize this, it leads to lasting change, because the changes come from inside of you and are not imposed by someone else.
To help you become the expert, thoughtful questions are asked by the coach to elicit your self-reflection.
